The devastating eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D left thousands dead. There are many petrified remains around Pompeii that appears to be statues but actually people killed the eruption. Last week, forest fires broke out and a terrifying figure appears on the Italian skyline, a skull shaped cloud that resembles the anguished faces of the victims of the volcano thousands of years ago.

The forest fires set Mt Vesuvius ablaze and it gave off the illusion of an eruption. Residents and even tourists around Naples Italy were evacuated as a safety measure. The lush vegetation of Vesuvius National Park was incinerated by the forest fires, it would take years for the recovery of the national park.

What terrified the tourists and residents is the skull shaped smoke that emerged during the forest fire. The figure of the skull only lasted for minutes before eventually deforming into random cloudy shapes. It only proves that the pareidolia phenomenon occuring in the human mind can cause panic like an event in Zambia last year, when a nimbus cloud emerged over a shopping mall.
