The next morning I woke up with double the number of hives, and a problem much bigger than my pre-teen frustrations.

She's not born with the condition, in fact Alexandra was a swimmer before she contracted the aquagenic urticaria. When she's only 12, she observed how she grew swollen red marks around her body. Alexandra once thought that the culprit was the high level of chlorine in the swimming pool. That's why she took a long shower hoping to lessen the swelling, but things get worse from here. The rashes actually grew in numbers and the next day she was diagnosed of having aquagenic urticaria.

Since her diagnosis, Alexandra made a lot of adjustments in her daily living. Going through her day is an obstacle, she needs to avoid places with humidity, running water and precipitation. She only takes a bath twice a week, using very cold water and done swiftly to avoid breakouts. She also stated in her statement at Allergicliving.com that she uses hand sanitizers to wash her hands.
